A project like Cetàcea wouldn’t be possible without the help of all the volunteers who have collaborated and are collaborating with us in different aspects such as developing and creating photo-identification catalogs, preparing and giving talks or taking part in our activities.
If you feel like being part of Cetàcea and you want to collaborate with us, please contact us at info∂associaciocetacea.org.
The current team of volunteers is composed of a very dynamic and competent group of people. Here are some of their stories:
I am a Biologist, interested and facinated by nature and inhabiting organisms since I was a child. However, I’ve always felt passionated about the sea and ocean fauna in a special way. My degree in biology allowed me to collaborate in diferent animal behaviour projects about rodents and raptors in Catalonia, and photo-ID and research projects of cetaceans in the Azores Islands. Furthermore, I also enjoyed working in marine nature educational projects. The “Associació Cetàcea” gives me the opportunity of improving and acquiring new marine conservation knowledge, at the same time, I do something about planet conservation and contribute to the knowledge about the biodiversity of our territory.
Although I live away from the sea, I have always been interested in the sea, especially in the marine mammals. After finishing a bachelor degree in Biology and taking part in a photo-identification project in the Açores Islands, I wondered if it was possible to carry out the same task in Catalunya. Finally, I found Associació Cetàcea and I decided to do my bit and collaborate with them and.
I was born and I grew up in a mountainous area in Catalunya, although I visited the sea every once in a while, as most of the people did. After finishing my degree in environmental sciences, I was fortunate to work in a NGO involved in marine conservations projects. There, surrounded by marine biologists, fishermen and coastal communities, I fell in love with the sea and every living creature that lives in it. They always quoted Jacques Cousteau: “We will conserve only what we love and we will love only what we understand. I have never worked in any field related to marine biology in Cataluna, but when I discovered Associació Cetàcea, the dream came true: to collaborate in marine studies in the Mediterranean.
Ever since I have been conscious I have been passionate about the animal world. As years passed by, and without knowing out, I discovered my true passion, the cetaceans. I then decided to dedicate my academic life to the marine world and when I felt a little unmotivated to study, I looked at the photographs of cetaceans hanging on my wall to get motivated again. I had my first encounter with a fin whale in Cap de Creus in 2009, when I was studying the Masters in Oceanography and Marine Environmental Management. It was an indescribable feeling. Although I haven’t been able to dedicate my professional life to what I am passionate about, I have found in Associació Cetàcea the opportunity to get involved in a marine conservation project.
We also would like to thank those people who have been helping us in our projects at some point.
