30/03/2014 – First Cetacean Sighting and Photo-Identification Course
The first edition of the Cetacean Sighting and Photo-Identification Course took place during March 28th, 29th and 30th with 8 students in attendance. The course consisted of a theoretical part that took place over Friday and Saturday and a practical part, which had to be postponed because of bad weather.
The participants were able to learn and also expand their knowledge on marine birds, turtles and cetaceans of the Mediterranean sea and the threats that affect them, about the different kinds of methods used in research projects on cetaceans, focusing especially on Photo-identification. The practical part consists of a cetacean sighting survey in which the students apply all the knowledge acquired during the theoretical classes. This survey was postponed due to bad weather conditions.
From Associació Cetàcea we want to thank all the course participants for attending the course. We think that activities such as these are important in order to help people learn more about Mediterranean cetaceans and to raise awareness about the importance of their protection.
