Associació Cetàcea presents the online bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) photo-identification catalogue as a result of the sighting surveys carried out within the Photo-Identification Project: Whales and dolphins along the Catalan coast since 2013. The catalogue is intended to be a good tool to improve our knowledge about the Risso’s dolphins visiting the central Catalan coast.

During the surveys carried out in 2013 different groups of bottlenose dolphins were spotted off the Garraf coast, mainly in waters shallower than 120 m. A total of 23 individuals composes the initial catalogue. The catalogue is aimed to be a tool to improve the knowledge about the cetacean species that visit the central Catalan coast. Using a selection process based on 7 technical criteria, the volunteers of Cetàcea selected 70 photographs with enough quality to be included in the catalogue.

Thanks to the great task of the volunteers that collaborated in this project, 23 bottlenose dolphins have been catalogued initially. We hope that the catalogue will keep growing in the future.
