27/11/2013 – Start of the collaboration with OBIS SEAMAP
Associació Cetàcea has begun a collaboration with OBIS SEAMAP by way of which we will make accessible all our sighting data that occurs throughout our projects. OBIS SEAMAP (Ocean Biogeographic Information System Spatial Ecological Analysis of Megavertebrate Populations) is an interactive database that includes information about observations of marine mammals, seabirds and sea turtles from across the globe. This project has different goals such as the quantification of the global patterns of marine species distribution and biodiversity or to facilitate studies of status and impacts on threatened species.
We have shared our data of the observations that occurred during the Fin Whale Project, which you can see here. From Associació Cetàcea we believe that it is important to share with everyone in an open way all the results obtained in our research projects. We think that initiatives like OBIS SEAMAP will contribute to joint efforts in the conservation of the threatened species of the planet.
Currently we are working on more collaborations that we hope will be established soon.
